Canada's Anti-Vaccine Mandate Trucker Convoy Inches Closer to the Nation's Capital City of Ottawa
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Tesla billionaire Elon Musk chimed in on the matter.
A giant trucker convoy is making its way towards Ottawa, the capital city of Canada. It is part of an ongoing protest against mandatory vaccinations. The convoy has attracted sympathetic crowds of protestors along the way. Canadian police are expecting between 1,000 and 2,000 demonstrators this Saturday in Ottawa.
Things have taken a fascinating turn as Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Elon Musk, the richest man alive, have chimed in with their views on the matter. Their beliefs on the matter stand in direct opposition to each other.
Justin Trudeau held a press conference and mentioned the trucker convoy protest, stating:
“The small fringe minority of people who are on their way to Ottawa who are holding unacceptable views that they are expressing, do not represent the views of Canadians who have been there for each other who know that following the science and stepping up to protect each other is the best way to continue to ensure our freedoms, our rights, our values as a county.”
By contrast, Elon Musk came out in support of the Canadian truckers. Musk also praised CB radios, a primary method of communication between truckers, as being “free from government and media control.”.
This is not the first time Musk has come out against vaccine mandates. During his TIME Person of the Year interview last month, Musk explained his views regarding vaccines and government mandatory vaccination policy. Musk confirmed being vaccinated himself and stated:
“Yes. Yeah, I’m very pro-vaccination. I believe the science is unequivocal. I treat it to that effect. But by the same token, I am against forcing people to be vaccinated. You know, I think this is just not something we should do in America. I think we should encourage people to be vaccinated. Strongly try to convince them to be vaccinated, but not force them to be vaccinated. Or, for example, force them to get vaccinated or get fired.”
We certainly live in interesting times. What else is next?
