San Jose, California Will Become the First U.S. City to Require Gun Owners Purchase Gun Liability Insurance
Government takes aim at the Second Amendment.
Earlier in late June, San Jose (pop. 1 million) city council voted unanimously to mandate San Jose gun owners purchase gun liability insurance. Additionally, San Jose gun owners will also be mandated to pay an annual fee to cover gun violence costs. These new restrictions arrive in the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in the Bay Area’s history to date.
These new requirements are an unprecedented move against the Second Amendment, a basic human right guaranteed in the United States. San Jose is already one of the most expensive cities in the U.S. to live in. Imposing additional costs on San Jose residents, particularly those who want to express a basic human right guaranteed in the Bill of Rights, is questionable action against basic freedom and working-class gun owners.
It is unknown when these new laws will go into effect, though heavy resistance is expected. The National Foundation for Gun Rights is currently searching for San Jose gun-owning residents who are interested in becoming plaintiffs for a potential lawsuit against San Jose’s city government.
